Automation is often introduced before the underlying process is understood. The result is a faster version of work that should not happen in the first place.
Start with the work, not the technology
- Look for repetitive tasks with clear inputs, outputs and ownership.
- Use trusted business data before adding more tools or models.
- Keep people in the loop where judgement, approval or customer context matters.
Useful automation should remove friction from existing work. If it adds another process to manage, the problem has probably not been simplified enough yet.
